First steps
Start with your hardware.
1. Know which board you have
R36S units are offered with V12, V21 and V30 supplier board revisions. Every finish is available on all three; the WiFi module we fit is not offered on V12. Keep the revision stated in your quote or order record; a finish color alone does not identify the board inside.
Sample board photographs, with the revision marking visible, are on the product page. The revision you order is stated in your written quote.
2. Charge through the correct port
Use the left-side port marked DC with a 5V/2A charger or lower. Do not use a high-power fast charger. A charging cable is not included, so check that your cable and charger are suitable before connecting the device.
3. Confirm the system medium before changing software
The supplier says the system is flashed before dispatch. The storage medium and exact software contents must be stated in your written quote. If your unit does not boot as described, contact us before formatting or flashing any storage.
If you later choose community firmware, follow the instructions for your verified board revision and keep a backup of any storage you own before making changes. A guide for one revision may not suit another.
4. Add only software you have the right to use
No games, ROM library or memory-card bundle is included in this sale. Community systems and tools are part of the appeal of an open handheld; obtain game files lawfully and follow each project's own instructions and licenses.
5. Get help when the setup differs
WiFi configurations can have a slight speaker hum. Disabling USB or network settings may require reflashing to restore WiFi. Ask through email or Discord before changing settings you cannot recover.
